About

Who is this guy? Muslim American/26 year old/DC area/CrossFit athlete/Senior Systems Engineer for a news organization/avid watermelon junkie/is this enough about me?

I started training in CrossFit the last week of Ramadan in 2009. I had no concept of proper nutrition at that time and remember showing up to my intro sessions 15 minutes after opening my fast with egg rolls. Needless to say, my sessions were sitcom worthy as I was found rushing to my special spot around the corner behind a tree to..well let’s just say junk food doesn’t look to good coming back out. In 2010, remembering that terrible experience I decided to take the month off. I thought it was the best decision for me at the time but I saw what used to be a fairly strict paleo/clean diet slip into the world of fried rice and bread. It took months to recover from that and I still can’t say I’m back to where I was or want to be.

My First Year’s Goals -2012
This year I want to try an experiment. I will be performing my Ramadan obligations but I want to avoid falling into the trap of unhealthy eating and laziness that happens to far too many of us. I will try to maintain a CrossFit training schedule and strive to eat as clean as possible. My CrossFit training will obviously modified to shorter met-cons and a greater amount of strength days. I have no idea how successful this will be or if this will be a complete failure. My hopes is that this blog keeps me accountable for this experiment and pushes me to complete it with success. My goal will be to maintain my PRs the best I can. If there is a day where I hit a new PR, you will see some ecstatic posts!

Also I want to point out that I am not by any means a scholar or expert on Islam. Any references I make to religion on this blog will be quotes from the Quran or from teachings I learned from others. If I make a bad reference or say something that is incorrect, please let me know.

hmm finally…its so much easier to find your about page via pc compared to my phone. So do you eat and train like this throughout the whole year as well? and i havnt gone to your beginning posts so idk, but do you not blog throughout the year except Ramadan?

    • Yeah I eat and train like this throughout the year, with the exception of the first half of this year. Well not exactly like this. I train 4-5 days a week with a lot more strenuous workouts. I only blogged during Ramadan last year, my first time blogging. I decided to do it again this year. Daily blogging is a lot of work!! Although, I am having fun with it so maybe I’ll continue, just less often. Or like you, one post a month (step it up).
